AGA KUBISH ARE
Aga Kubish is a fine artist and printmaker based in Wales, UK. She works across drawing, printmaking, photography and artist’s books, developing large-scale works grounded in what she describes as Human Rooting — an embodied methodology of establishing presence within complex, interconnected systems.
At the centre of her practice are monumental linocuts, often printed entirely by hand without a press. Using improvised, physical methods of pressure, Kubish treats the act of printing as an extension of drawing — a durational, bodily process that embeds gesture directly into the structure of the image. This approach allows the work to carry not only visual complexity, but also a record of time, effort and physical engagement.
Her work explores organic and relational networks: root systems, botanical structures, architectural frameworks and layered environments that function as spatial fields rather than static images. Rather than simplifying complexity, Kubish inhabits it, allowing order to emerge gradually through dense, repetitive mark-making. Within these intricate systems, a human trajectory becomes visible — not as control, but as presence.
She discovered printmaking in 2021, which has since become central to her practice.
Aga is an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (elected 2022). Her large linocut Green Househas been acquired for the RE Diploma Collection. In 2026 she became a member of the Bath Society of Artists.
In 2025, she founded and directed ART GALLERY & STUDIO in Weston-super-Mare, curating several group and solo exhibitions and fostering collaborative relationships between artists and audiences. Following the closure of the space, she returned her focus to her own studio-based and research-led practice.
Her work is informed by the visual language of historical engraving and print traditions, including hatching and dotwork, alongside an ongoing interest in traditional bookbinding and plant-based photographic processes. Working predominantly in black ink and at large scale, she embraces slow, labour-intensive methods that emphasise duration, structure and material presence.
She draws inspiration from artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Katsushika Hokusai and Alphonse Mucha, while developing a distinctly contemporary visual language rooted in systems, perception and embodied experience.
Since 2025, Aga has been an Ambassador for St Cuthbert’s Mill.
She is currently completing an MA in Fine Art (Printmaking) at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
