Artist book ‘The Shelter’
08/07/2026

The thing which was made with flow, instinct and intuition, without strict planning and designing, looks like a totally opposite way than ‘The Shelter’ linocut print was made.

I dared to be free.

In the material selection — I’ve been listening to my hand.
In the composition — I’ve been watching with my eye.
With a story which I had in the back of my mind — but I was feeling what my heart was telling me.
And the only reasonable way to connect everything together, to make them work like layers of time of the same story, was stitching.

Initially, I was unsure.
Using only light, almost invisible thread, I was supposed to be afraid to touch too hard.
I let the layers be what they wanted to be…
And slowly, they were telling me their own story.

I chose darker thread.
And finally — the red one.
The story was revealed and showed the whole picture.
But was it really a picture?
A picture indeed?

Working with senses: touch, hearing, even the smell of paper and ink…
More like an embodied experience than a pure picture.

Changing the form — from pretending to be an “artist book” to 3D forms: a star, a concertina, a Japanese wall…
Its fantasy closes down in hard handmade covers, with stitched lines which look like they are coming out from inside, trying to get out and live their own life.

The Shelter is a sculptural artist book exploring perception, connection and embodied experience.
